Playing with the Andre St. James quartet at the Albina Jazz Festival, I was unaware that I was being videoed , glad I didn’t know! What a fun gig, that is one of Ben Graves original compositions called Sunflower.
Hal Grossman: I’ve been taking lessons with this excellent violinist and teacher, He has pointed out ways to achieve a better sound and agility in my playing. Technique, as he puts it, is simply to meet the demands of the music being played, not and end in itself. It’s very exciting to still be learning secrets of this fascinating instrument, my passion, the Violin and the bow. Truth be told, I’m playing much more Viola these days, the same principles of sounding point, bow grip, left hand placement all apply. He is also a certified Yoga teacher and completely understands the human body and all it’s muscle groups. I can’t say enough about how much he has helped me, and if he were to live in Portland, I’d take weekly lessons with him, I’m sure he’ll be back! Thanks Hal!!
